A Dash of Advent across the Diocese

by ajack last modified 08 Dec, 2021 04:50 PM

Happy Advent. Can you believe it’s almost Christmas? We know it’s sometimes difficult to get into the spirit of the season, so we’ve put together some more snippets from across the Diocese to give you some Advent inspiration!

Deck the halls!

Churches of Abbotsbury, Portesham and Langton Herring, celebrated their Christingle service on 5th December and explored the meaning of the Christingle orange. "Super to have members from Chesil Beavers and cubs with us and children from Portesham Primary school.

Eco-Christingle

St James' Church, Devizes recently held their first outdoor Eco-Christingle. With messages about how to do your bit for the environment dominating the news.

We encourage you all to look at how to make your Christingle services more environmentally friendly. "No oranges were innocently harmed or wasted" during the making of St James’ Churches service, and plenty of good news and Christmas cheer was shared.

Festive photos

Check out Spetisbury, Charlton Marshall and Blandford St.Mary Churches photos from their Christingle service and craft afternoon in Charlton Marshall. It looks super festive! Don’t worry if you missed it, you can catch their Christingle Service in Spetisbury Church on Christmas Eve at 4pm.

Warm up your vocal chords!

The wonderful St Thomas church has incorporated the sound of music into their Christmas events, with their own talent entertaining them this week: Folkmaere in action!

Take a look at what other services they have coming up.

Daily reflections

The Deanery of Poole and North Bournemouth have put together an Advent booklet that includes a daily reflection every day from 1st - 24th December.

2,500 copies have been distributed across the Deanery Churches and the booklet includes reflections from Deanery Clergy, laity, Pioneer Ministers and our hospital Chaplains.

This is led by ‘Reconnect Poole’, who’s vision is to be a missional community living out the Christian faith in everyday life. You can check out their Facebook here.

We love seeing what you are all up to this Advent, remember to share your news and photos with us at comms@salisbury.anglican.org.
