A Danish Visit
Visiting clergy from Denmark were given a taste of Rural Hope this week.
The group of 17 Danish clergy from Sonderborg came to gain insights into rural ministry and their visit included talks by all our Rural Field Officers.
They also heard from Jill Hopkinson, Tutor in Rural Ministry in the Sarum Centre for Formation in Ministry as well as a day out visiting the Okeford Benefice to see examples of the different ways in which churches can be resourced and the variety of work – particularly with much being led by lay people – undertaken.
They visited St Paul’s Hammoon and then Holy Rood Shillingstone, before spending time together discussing rural ministry and gaining ideas for the future.
Inside St Paul's Hammoon
The Revd Lydia Cooke, Rector of the Oxeford Benefice said:
"It was lovely to be able to welcome 17 visiting Danish clergy to the Benefice today. We visited Hammoon and Shillingstone Churches and then gathered in the Church Centre for various talks on the rural church.
"Lots of good conversation and shared experiences. I often tease Hammoon that the coach load will come one day - and today was the day!"
The Diocesan Ministry Team's IME & CMD Resource Officer Sue Chandler added that it was "an excellent day of fellowship."
