A Christmas Tree for Aleppo

A Wiltshire church has made a special Christmas tree display remembering the people of Aleppo.

St Nicholas’ in Bromham has just completed a very successful fifth annual Christmas Tree Festival, but the tree made to show solidarity with the war torn Syrian city will remain on display every day until Sunday 18 December between 8.30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The display was the brainchild of Michael Lloyd-Jones, who worked together with his fellow churchwarden at Sandy Lane Church, Ernest Escott, to bring the idea to life.

Ernest said,  “We made the display to show those of us in warm homes, with roofs over our heads, and full bellies that others are not so fortunate, especially the people of Aleppo and other war zones.

“The situation there is so horrifying, Perhaps through the power of prayer we may be able to make a difference.”

Lay Worship Leader at St Nicholas, Heather Armstrong, said Christmas Eve would be a special day at the church, saying, “At 4 pm on Christmas Eve, we’ll gather at the Old Blind House on Bromham High Street on Christmas Eve for a crib service which should appeal especially to children. At the end, we’ll have a live baby to represent Jesus to put into the crib. All are welcome.”
