80 Years On, It’s Our Turn

The Bishops have added their signatures to an open letter that will be sent next week to council leaders in Wiltshire by the charity Safe Passage.

Isla Russell of Wiltshire for Refugees said:
“One of the challenges for us in Wiltshire is to find enough foster homes for children both coming as refugees and those who are born here. We'd like to help spread the word about this need so more foster parents come forward and it would be great to have the church's support in getting the message out there.”
“If leaders were able to speak with their congregations about the value of fostering that too could be what makes all the difference.”

“We want to create a safe and legal route away from traffickers and smugglers and send a clear message that children seeking asylum should not have to take illegal and perilous journeys in order to receive help in Wiltshire.”
The charity is planning to take the letter to Wiltshire Council on the morning of Tuesday 26 February.
An additional response is being launched by Churches Together in Dorset, supported by the Bishop of Sherborne.
