Final Preparations for Vivaldi

The choir commit to a week of hard graft as they prepare to lead the hundred-strong chorus on Saturday 15th

In the final week building up to Vivaldi's Gloria, this year's choral performance at Our Lady of Victories, the choir have committed to an extensive schedule of rehearsals, not least a de-tour to BBC Television Centre to sing some carols for staff on Thursday afternoon. This, all before they lead the hundred-strong chorus on Saturday 15th December, in Vivaldi's most well-known choral work. The final performance, which will be held at 19.45 this coming Saturday, is scheduled to be sung in front of a sell-out crowd in the magnificent Roman Catholic Church on Kensington High Street. In preparation for the event, a day of rehearsals starting at 09.00 will feature singers from the parental and local community, as well as alumni and governors. Reservations have now stopped being taken, but those still interested in attending are welcome to find unreserved space in the church.

For choir parents, the text of the letter sent on 3rd December with all the information about the day is copied here:

"The second event, already in the calendar and somewhat profiled in In The Know, is the Vivaldi Gloria.  As I am expecting attendance from all students in the choir, there is no feedback form for this but for many parents who are new to this event, I thought just a line might be helpful in preparation. Students (and any adults joining us to sing) will rehearse in the morning within school from 09.00 in the school’s main hall. For rehearsals during the day, there is no requirement to wear school uniform. Refreshments are available gratis throughout the day, including a hot cooked lunch and some light bites later in the evening. We will begin to rehearse in Our Lady of Victories from 14.00 on Saturday afternoon and will break at 18.00 for mass and to get changed and to have a brief bite to eat. Students are asked to bring their Holland Park trousers / skirt, school shoes and a white shirt. We are able to provide white shirts on the day. We will all be back in the church for 19.45 for the beginning of the concert."
