Super server upgrade
Speed and reliability
Although Beetlebrow web sites have never been exactly slow, with more and more client sites being hosted, and with some fairly big ticket traffic hogs among them, our server cluster was beginning to suggest that it might reach the limits of its capacity some time soon. Rather than wait for this to happen, we decided to upgrade now, and boy are we glad we did.
We've added some lovely new hardware which has more than four times to capacity, memory and processing power of the old cluster, and have upgraded our OS to the latest version. All this means that everything is even faster than it was before.
It won't end there, though. In the pipeline, there's a major upgrade of our Plone 3 sites to the latest release of Plone 4, which is 50% faster than Plone 3 and offers more and better functionality. Our last few remaining Plone 2.5 sites are also in for an upgrade, and although the upgrade path might be a bit trickier, soon all our sites will be benefitting from the latest bells and whistles that Plone has to offer, on a superfast new hosting platform.
